Description

Dr. Hindy's approach includes methods of cognitive-behavioral (CBT), Interpersonal, and Social-learning theories. He very much appreciates the importance understanding what's important to his clients. Their thoughts and feelings, hopes and frustration, and styles of interacting -- unique to each person -- are basic to their happiness and fulfillment ... but sometimes lead to impasses, feeling "stuck." Whether working with individuals or couples, he knows that some repetitive patterns can become too "automatic" over time. With an an active, engaging, "coaching" style of counseling, Dr. Hindy encourages clients to explore these impasses, better understand how they view, react, and in turn impact others ... And help them to become more aware and willing to try again in new ways.

Co-author of "If This Is Love, Why Do I Feel So Insecure?" (Random House, 24th paperback printing), Dr. Hindy's relationship work involves understanding communications patterns, needs, expectations, and insecurities, increasing mutual empathy while reducing defensiveness. Couples seek help with problems of commitment, boundaries, trust, impulses, affection, intimacy, sexual and other facets of satisfaction in marriage and family life.

At times counseling helps to illuminate how our family backgrounds, interacting with our current circumstances as we perceive, react and shape them, impact our adult relationships. From this perspective there are no villains to blame, only ourselves and those significant others in our lives to better understand and appreciate. Individuals and couples seeking to improve communications and intimacy in their relationships appreciate such a non-judgmental approach to understanding and improving their relationships.

Whether individual psychotherapy or couples counseling, there often is discussion of balancing the demands of relationships, work, and parenting in everyday life. Overcoming anxiety, depression, or sometimes lifelong habits which hold folks back from making the most of their capabilities.
