I believe that when we are free to marry the person we fall in love with, a unique and fascinating relationship emerges -- that has great potential and at the same time there are the seeds for conflict and confusion. Couples who come to understand the unique and often unconscious components with their relationship find that they can tap into the healing qualities of a love relationship and move to a very satisfying place. I often use the metaphor of a rocket-ship heading for Jupiter, but missing the mark by 100,000 miles. What is needed, however, is a small, mid-course correction and the rocket-ship is back on target. Similarly couples who feel so far apart that they feel they can never reconnect, can find that small, wisely developed, mid-course corrections can get them back on target. I am a clinical psychologist with offices in Pasadena and Encino, California. Though I have a general practice, I have a special emphasis on relationships and the relationship components of anxiety, depression etc. 80% of my practice is with couples. I accept insurance but am not on any panels. If your insurance company will allow you to choose your own therapist, there should be no problem. You might want to check with your insurance company and ask what they will pay for "outpatient psychiatric services with a clinical psychologist".
